Special Education Teacher – Moderate to Severe Autism Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Special Education Teacher to support students with moderate to severe autism in a structured, well-supported classroom environment.
Location: California, USA
Students may be non-verbal or minimally verbal, have cognitive delays, and demonstrate behavioural challenges as a form of communication. Ages range from early elementary through adult transition (up to age 22).
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement individualised instruction aligned to IEP goals
- Provide functional academics and life-skills instruction
- Use evidence-based and ABA-informed strategies
- Support functional communication development (AAC/PECS experience preferred)
- Implement positive behavior supports
- Collect and monitor student data
- Lead and coach paraprofessionals
- Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary team members
Preferred Experience
Moderate to severe autism
Assistive & Augmentative Communication (AAC)
Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
Data-driven instruction
Collaboration with speech-language pathologists

Qualification:
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or related field - Teaching qualification is a must (ATHE Level 6 diploma in teaching , B.Ed, etc) - ABA certification is preferred
